car exhaust gas analyzer question

Any person have experience with some old style gas analyzers for car exhaust? Now we have 5 gas analysers for CO, CH, O2, CO2, NOx. OTC makes MicroGas for $7000. Snap-on Tools also has one for $7000, Autologic $3000 They are just good for auto mechanic shop and smog shops. Before there were 4 gas analysers only : CO, CH, O2, CO2 and no NOx. But before that, in 1970-1980-1990 there were some "one gas analyzer" , just CO. namely Heathkit, Sears, Inficon, even now still has Gastester, Gunson cost about $100, Kane-May, Halibar, RKI, Motortest, Peerless, AirFuelMixture What are they good for? I suppose that they do not really work, and now they just drop out of the market?

Not certain what you're asking... Are you wondering what the single gas analyzers are good for or are you asking what all the above mentioned gas analyzers are good for?

The best deal out there is the AutoLogic, you should be able to get it for around $2600, it is the same as the unit that Snap-On sells for over $7000, it only needs a PC (laptop) or PDA as a display where the Snap-On needs a $8000+ Modis as a display. The single gas units will probably work okay if you're only concerned about the one gas but as a diagnostic tool, you really need at least a 4 gas to be able to tell what is going on in the engine.
