Do you use a torque wrench?

I remember the first time I tried to install a plug on my '89 Integra. I used two 3-in extensions. After tightening the plug, I was able to get the plug socket off the extension by gently rocking it and pulling. Of course it took about 12 tries. The 6-in locking extension is a really nice solution - not to mention I now have a 6-in extension.

Do they make it, or is it one of their Far East suppliers? ;-)

What kind of warranty is it? The one thing I like about the Craftsman warranty is that I can take it to any Sears store (or OSH), and they'll replace it even if it has suffered intentional abuse. I know someone who found a broken Craftsman tool on the sidewalk, and brought it in for replacement no questions asked.

BTW - I found a couple of sub $30 torque wrenches (CIA brand) from Toolsource.com. They're the only US-based internet retailer I've seen that will sell a T70 Torx socket I need for my Subaru.

Well - about all I've figured out by feel is the Honda aluminum crush washer used on their oil and transmission drain bolts. I can just feel it give enough that I stop.

Yes, it's called my arm. Two clicks of my elbow and I'm within spec.

I do however use a seperate torque wrench for screws that aren't designed to be fully tightened. (like adjusting tranny bands, spring tension, etc)

I also learned to see with my hands. Newbies freak when they try and replace the rear bank of plugs on a FWD GM V-6. You do it all by feel.

Yep, you can't get a torque wrench down there. 3.1,3.4L, sometimes the 3.8 V6

I pay attention to torque specs on critical components. Bearing Preloads, Just about everything on the engine, sometimes plastic parts. I say sometimes because you tighten them to hard and they break, you undertighten and they rattle. Lug Nuts (Over tighten them and you warp rotors or can't get them off.)

However, for spark plugs on the back side of the engine, I also do them by hand.

Tighten it till it snaps off or strips. Seriously, not usually, except on cylinder heads, bearing caps, oil pumps, and the like.
