I want to know if you take the battery cable off will that reset the computer and if so what cable positive or negative and how long would you leave it off thanks

Generally speaking yes, it will reset the engine control module and if you have an error code, it will usually turn off the check engine light. Knowing what vehicle(year, make model) would make it easier to give a definitive answer. If you are going to pull a cable, start with the negative cable if your vehicle has a negative ground electrical system. Leave it off for a few minutes.

That depends on a lot of things, including what kind of car you have and what kind of error it's logged.
