Fuel gauge swings excessively

Oct 03, 2003 2 Replies

The fuel gauge in my '96 Buick Regal swings excessively when I turn (even moderately) or come to an abrupt stop. I know the gas is swaying around in the tank, but the distance the needle moves on the gauge is really absurd. Any thoughts?

thanks.

My Mazda did this. Install a release pendulum switch (the kind seen on portable heater against tipping over) When ever the car sways, it open the circuit between sensor and needle. Not sure if needle will just drop to zero, I think my Honda doesn't.
