GM Sunroofs:
Did they ever make one that recesses INTO the vehicle roof instead of sliding out up over it??? Is it that much more costly to do that?

Sure do. Take a look at the higher end cars. Yes it is more expensive and harder to design because of the extra sealing required to keep water at bay.
