Mitsubishi Transmission shifting question

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Spyder. Sometimes it will not shift out of reverse and second without releasing and reengaging the clutch. Noticed it mostly when stopped, rather than shifting from second to third. but may just not have noticed. The vehicle shifts fine otherwise. Would like to know what may be causing the shifting problem. Thanks Don

either it's a sticky interlock [if they're both on the same actuator rod], or the clutch is sticking on the input drive spline and not releasing properly - second gear usually wears the synchro faster than other gears and may not be able to generate the friction necessary to break [brake] the clutch "sticktion". reverse doesn't typically have a synchro, so same problem.

looks like you'll be dropping the transmission to take a look either way.
