Mustang 4.6L resonance sound from intake manifold

I have a 97 Mustang GT with the 4.6L engine that produces a sound at about 1800 RPM that should not be there. It is a resonance...a humm, buzz, vibration, or such...that can be heard well, as if it is emanating from the plastic intake manifold. At idle, if I get under the hood and rev the engine, this resonance is pronounced as the engine goes up and down through the 1800 RPM range. I know I need to take it into the shop...any ideas on what I am hearing and how bad it is? -- SailorDan --

I don't know about an intake resonance, but most 5.0 and 4.6 Mustangs have an exhaust "drone" around 1800-2000 RPM. It's subtle, but the car's seem to be loudest in that RPM range regardless of what exhaust system is installed.

This noise is something that just started, and could easily be coming from the cam or the lifters, but the frequency is wrong (too fast) for that. I'm familiar with the exhaust drone, but this is very different.
