Any opinions? I need a thread repair on a single M5 hole. Helicoil kit is about $50; permacoil is $20. Obviously you know which way I'm tempted to go...

None of the above.
Use self tapping, self locking, no special tools needed Gardserts.

Nothing wrong with permacoil. We sell them at our auto parts store, and have never had an issue with them.
