REVIEW: WINTER TIRES ????

Hi,

Does anyone know of a webpage that compares and reviews winter tires for cars and rates them against each other to determine, which one is the best.

I tried google without much success.

Thank you

I find that tirerack.com has a good pretty good rating system for tires in general based on customer feedback. They also have a decent selection of winter tires.

For my part, I had Blizzack WS-50's on my Rx-8. It made me rather unstoppable in the snow. Like able to drive with confidence through 6-8 inches down the unplowed interstate.

I put Goodyear Ultra Grip 195/60-15's on my 2004 Miata. It was like magic! With the factory 205/45-16 it wouldn't start, stop or turn. With the Goodyear's it was like a new car. The Goodyear's weren't my first choice, but I decided to go as cheap ($39 ea.) as I could and they worked amazingly well.

consumerreports.

i used to run blizzaks, then a couple of years ago CR liked the michelin alpin better, so i switched to them and i do like them better. IIRC, michelin continues to head up the CR snow tire reports.

Hi do you have a specific URL ?

but you have to subscribe to read the reviews, usually, since they have the same policy as the print edition of not selling ads. Hopefully, i won't put them out of business if I just quote: The Michelin (1) is the top choice for harsh winters. The Goodyear (3) and Mastercraft (5) also provide excellent snow traction, though not as good braking on ice. The Bridgestone (4) is also very capable on both snow and ice. The Viking (2) is worth considering where winters are moderate or roads are cleared promptly. It handles and brakes very well on dry and wet pavement, and it rides comfortably and quietly.

If you're more ambitions, they also test high performance winter tires, and if you're less ambitious they also test all-season tires, in winter.

Thanks, seems to differ with this review:

Which Bridgestone tire are they testing, they have more than one Winter model for cars. What year was the Consumer Report? Bridgestone just came out in 2007 with a new third generation tire.
