I have a 1994 lincoln town car and the transmission wont go in reverse but it drives foward fine. changes every gear going foward.
can anyone help? do i need a new transmission?

First, make sure the fluid is at the correct level. Check the color and odor of the fluid carefully for darkening or burned smell. If that is OK, have a diagnostic scan done to determine whether there is a problem with the transmission electronics. If it passes that, it is likely rebuild time as the reverse in the AOD-E is manually selected.

When and how did this start? There are times when the linkages on auto trannies can get damaged or out of adjustment, and the repair can be as simple as adjusting them.
And there are other times when internal problems are the cause.
Have you had it serviced recently? Ever?
A tranny specialist can diagnose it for you. Note, I didnt say dealership, and certainly didnt suggest any particular franchise operation. Find a good mechanic and see what he has to say.
