what is this?

I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.5L. I had the air intake pieces off and noticed that a hose was not really connected to a valve stem on the engine and it was more or less just laying against in. I have uploaded the picture in hope someone could identify what the valve is and how it should be connected. I have tried to reconnected the tube but it appears something may have broken off because there is no way it can be connected. Your help is appreciated.

Here is the picture. I have tagged the valve in the picture if you do a rollover on the picture.

I'm not familiar with this engine and it's not clearly visible in the picture, but I would guess the PCV valve. There should be a hose going from the connector on the valve cover to the engine intake.

If it is what I think, the hose should go to the air intake and it would be a crankcase vent.

If it doesn't fit back on, then you have put the intake pieces back on crooked or if it goes to the fender box and won't reach, I would suspect a broken engine mount.

Looks like the original angled connector broke off, and somebody just jammed a handy piece of whatever in the remains of the old hose.

Perfect pictures...thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. Now I have a pretty good idea of what I need when I go to the auto parts store. I appreciate it.
