Vauhall Corsa - What Is This?

Hi Folks,

Can anybody tell me what this gizmo is?

formatting link
It is in a CORSA Sport - 1.4XE 16 valve engine X Reg.

It should have a yellow and a green tube going to it. It has a green button thing behind the electric connector that you can turn with your fingers.

It is situated above the "Secondary Air Injection Switchover Valve" and is mounted on a bracket attached to the suspension strut. It is on the right hand side of the engine compartment (looking from the front of the car) and just to the left of the bonnet alarm switch.

It is a proper Vauxhall fitment, not after sales.

I cannot find any reference to it in the Haynes Manual.

Regards

Jack

Where do the hoses go? It's certainly a solenoid valve, possibly for the EVAP system.

What makes you think it *isn't* the "Secondary Air Injection Switchover Valve"?

It certainly looks like some sort of electrically operated mechanical switching device with small tubes involved in the switching process..

Hi guys, thanks for your response.

This is the problem. The Corsa is my son's car. He recently noticed that the yellow tube was disconnected at both ends. He doesn't know how long it has been like this as it has never been mentioned in any of the service reports.

I have figured out that one end of the yellow tube should be attached to a take off nipple, which has broken off, on the "brake servo check valve" and the other end goes to this device that I do not recognise and it is not shown in the Haynes workshop manual.

The other end of the yellow tube hangs by this device but I cannot see where to connect it. A green tube goes from the device back towards the rear centre of the engine bay and disappears down the back of the exhaust manifold.

On the picture, if you look just to the left of the green tube, there is a rubber L shaped connection tube going down but that appears to be blocked and goes nowhere. (I have a feeling that the yellow tube and the L shaped tube should be connected with "something" in between).

From the same brake servo check valve is another take off nipple from whence a black tube to the "Secondary Air Injection Switchover Valve" runs. I know it is the "Secondary Air Injection Switchover Valve" as there is a picture of it in the Hayes Manual showing the white donut thing and that device is definitely underneath this gizmo.

I called in to the local Vauxhall dealer today and asked if he could identify it from his parts computer. He said that he had never seen one before and suggested that I book the car in so that the mechanics could identify it. {As what is missing is probably a push on part I wonder how much labour they would charge for such a simple operation :-( }

I could do with somebody with a similar car to look and see what should be there. The alternative is to lurk around the local supermarket car park until I see one. What would a persons reaction be if approached by a stranger and asked "Can I look under your bonnet". I'd probably be arrested if it was a woman!!!

Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Jack

They should be. The item you've pictured is the remains of a vacuum solenoid valve, and should have a plastic cover on it, along with a small valve actuated by the coil that remains, and with connections for the hoses.

I'd hazard a guess it's for an EGR valve, given where the yellow hose taps into the vacuum system (if it was for an EVAP system, the hose would connect directly to either the inlet manifold, or throttle body). Only way to tell is to find out where the green tube goes to.
