1991 Toyota Previa CV Joints

Jun 25, 2013 1 Replies

The CV Joints on my 1991 Toyota Previa AWD are worn out and make clicking n oises when I make a tight turn. Are they in danger of popping out or in da nger of causing anything adverse?

I understand that Previas, unlike other FWD vehicles that solely rely on th e front wheels with the CV joints, are primarily RWD vehicles and the front wheels only kick in when wheel spin is detected. It is summer now and I h aven't noticed any engagement of the front wheels.

Thank you in advance ...

to your first question, a bad outer CV joint, could, on a tight turn, bind/lock causing that wheel to not rotate, causing loss of control of the vehicle.

That's why in areas with "safety inspections" a bad CV is cause for a "fail".
