1992 4WD Corolla Station Wagon

Hi found that my EGR Valve is bad and Toyota wants $450 for a new one I think I will buy a used one and see if that works...I just can't find the damn thing on the block I found something that is taking a pipe form the exhaust manifold but it looks so small for a 450 dollar part. Can someone send me the picture of the engine poing to the valve. It's a 4WD automatic tranny 1.6 litre made in japan PLEASE PLEASE HELP I want my car to stop stalling

thanks

Hey, Darryl, sure it's the EGR? (Not questioning, just asking!) The reason I ask is that I have heard a lot of people say their EGR is bad, gone to the expense and trouble of replacing it, and had the same problem as before.

In all the Toyotas I have owned (a LOT) I have NEVER had an EGR go bad! Almost always when the symptoms indicated an EGR valve, it was a hose somewhere.

Also, the fact you don't know where it is indicates you haven't tested it. Testing it is real easy, once you find it.

Rather that shell out a couple hundred $$$$ for an EGR valve, start small: go to CarQuest or AutoZone and get the Haynes manual for the car. It's $20. It will tell you where the EGR is, and how to test it.

If I knew you, I'd bet you the $20 for the manual that it's not the EGR.

In the meantime, I'd be searching for a plugged or broken hose...

Good Luck!

The garage tested it yesterday and said it was stuck and needed a tap to get it free so for sure its the EGR they said

Oh, ok. How about tapping it once in a while? ;)

Still, if you plan on leeping the car, an investment in a manual might be in order.

Look here for some clues:

I keep forgetting thet AutoZone now has repair info for the more popular cars on the road. This looks like a pretty decent document for your needs.

Good Luck!

If you do not want to pay $450 for the EGR valve, I would get an aftermarket one over a used one because the used one will probably have the same problem.

If you are talking about the device above and to the right of the oil filler cap, yes, that looks like the EGR valve.
