2000 Echo steering noise

Hello,

I've got a 2000 Echo with 90,000 km on it. It's been pretty good so far, but has recently started making an odd noise, especially when turning. It's an intermittent noise, that varies with speed. Sort of a "scuff.. scuff.. scuff" kind of sound.

I noticed it first a little while back, but today was quite a bit more noticable. I do have a service appointment for regular stuff in a few days, but should I bump things up to get this checked ASAP? Suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks, Tim

Wow. This could be ANYTHING to do with the suspension! Is it in the front or the rear?

Since you're having it serviced anyway, make sure you tell them. You say it does it with the wheel turned; sharply, slightly, intermittent?

We recently (thursday) had a Scion xA with a very similar problem. I was too busy to pay attention to what the tech found; I can't have an answer for you until Monday evening.

Some things I would look at: Springs, rotors, calipers/pads, dust cover (on the back side of the brake rotors), bushings, inside tread on the tire, inside the wheel/rim, bearings, wheel wells (did you put larger tires than recommended?).

Good luck...

That it happens more while turning hints at CV joint wear. I'd check for torn/leaking CV boots, both inner and outer.
