Not sure if you are suggesting that the CEL/SES is on and indicating a low engine coolant temperature... but...

It could be a bad engine coolant temperature sensor or a stuck-open thermostat...

This is a reference to the temperature of the coolant. The indicator glows blue when the engine/coolant temp is low, and glows red when the engineis overheating.

It is kind of a reminder not to HONK on it until it warms up. They may have also put it in as an indication that the trnasmission will not slip into O/D until the blue light goes out (Engine temp has to be ~120 degrees before O/D can engage)

Wow! that is a neat little function to have... I've never heard of this before (or seen it for that matter)... Is it available in any other Toyota? My 97 Corolla doesn't have it :)

I believe it started with the Prius. Takes some getting used to ("Why the hell is that thing glowing BLUE?!?!?!")

I think the Avalon has it too, IIRC...

Scion xB (and all other Scions, methinks) too.

In the ones with automatics, the transmission won't go into high gear until the light is out . . . .
