88 Supra BVSV

On my Supra (and a LOT of others I have seen) the upper nipple on the BVSV breaks off. This is the VSV that fits into the Thermostat housing and contorls venting the canister into the intake.

I just got a 'new' one on e-bay for 1/2 of retail (even at my cost, which is 25%!). The question I have is: before I install it, is there something I can do to keep the damn nipple from breaking off? I've already thought of Bag Balm, so save that answer for another time...

I've seen VSV's of all types crack or break over time. My guess is that the heat in the engine compartment makes the plastic brittle. You could use longer vacuum hoses so that there is more slack and less tendency to pull the valve, put some kind of silicone lubricant on the valve to make the hoses go on and off easier or you can go hog wild and form an epoxy envelope over the valve, making sure to leave the hose connections clean.

I think you have some good suggestions there, Ray.

To Hachiroku, unfortunately, there's no way to stop nature. The plastic will get brittle over time. We can minimize or slow it down a bit but we can never stop it.

I like both sets of wheels. Where did you get the 'honeycomb' wheels? I didn't think they were offered in the US. (um, ARE you in the US?) The stamped steel wheel was on the spare; when the car got boosted I tried to find a set of them but they were even more elusive than the alloys; considering how many cars they were used on, I would have thought they'd be a snap.

Nice car, though. Is it street or racing only? Not alot makes me jealous; you accomplished it! ;)

Do you have a text description as to what you've done to the car, or did you just recondition it?
