When was the last time you had it serviced? New plugs, rotor, wires, air filter, fuel filter? Cleaned the throttle bdy and the injectors? (at least run bottle of Techron FI cleaner" in the gas. If lots of miles and infrequent oil changes could be just worn out (low compression).

Besides Wolfgang's questions and advice, how many miles on the car? What is it's general condition? Manual or automatic transmission? When was the last time the transmission was serviced? If automatic, what is the condition of the transmission fluid?
