Corolla (2003, LE) - Road Noise

Jan 31, 2008 2 Replies

I have a 2003 Corolla LE with 60K miles.

Bought new BFG Touring T/A tires a while back, and now the car rides as noisy as all get-out......sounds like a 4-wheel drive truck humming down the road. Tires are physically in great shape....no damage.....just a constant "hummmm" as I drive down the road. The tires are rated as "quiet", and the OEM Firestones I had on the car before....I just don't remember them making any noise.

Is it the car?? Are other Corolla's noisy too?? These tires don't have a lot of miles on them (maybe 20K), and I don't want to replace them, just to have the new ones make the same noise.

Any suggestions??

Thanks, Regards, John

John, the reviews at tirerack.com all say that the BFG Traction T/A tires are quiet. I would have the shop that installed them check them out.

I bought some Yokohamas for my Sienna and they were rather noisy until they wore down a bit. It seems the tread was so deep it was making a resonance that sounded like a hum. They are quiet now.
