new to group - trouble finding timing belt change information on hiace 98 new shape

Sep 24, 2005 2 Replies

Hi All Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction,

I?m wanting to change my timing belt on my new shape 1998 hiace, power van (UK)

2446 cc Diesel, (it?s the previous engine and not the new D4D engine) but having problems finding any guides or information on the correct procedure or is it a garage/ auto shop job for the professional only, I have experience with my previous vehicles, changing gearbox/transmission, clutch etc,

Is there any special tools or tips I need to complete the job,

And just one more question about power steering, Is it variable power steering, as in the higher the speed the stiffer the steering, Any help or reference I will really appreciate,

I hope I?ve not come up the same question everyone asks, as I don?t seem to find much regarding the hiace,

TIA Dave

If you have the 2RZE engine then it has a chain.

I don't know about the power steering, but what does it feel like? My guess would be no, it won't have variable.

The 2l diesel does have a belt: change every 60000, there is a lamp to remind you.

the procedure is quite lengthy, 3 hours if you know what you are doing, ideally you need special tools for the bottom pulley.

If I were you I would enquire about fitted price at a dealer.
