OT Tempting Fate?

Are they still teaching new drivers hand signals? Reason why I ask is because many drivers aren't even using their turn signals lately, even if there's oncoming traffic. This morning I was behind one vehicle that was driving close to the curb to begin with and then it stopped at the red light. I didn't know the driver's intention was to stay there until the light turned green and the car didn't move. In another instance, the vehicle in front took a right turn with no right turn signal and almost whacked a crossing pedestrian. It seems like they're tempting fate.

I see lots of hand signals when I watch drivers in NYC. A lot of them involve the finger between the ring finger and the index finger.

I thought that was the idea of a red light: stay there until the light turns green.

Yeah, using the turn signal would have really helped avoid whacking a crossing pedestrian.

We're all tempting fate. Just some are tempting it more than others.

There is nothing we can do without risk.

I didn't think it was necessary to mention the pedestrian as a school kid in a slum neighborhood. Car plus signal to turn equals walk slower attitude. Know what I mean? When I was returning from an errand kids were jay walking at a good pace. I came to a stop and they slowed down to a crawl. Too bad they don't know I gave two large bags of deposit bottles to their parents who were out scrounging.
