Some of the latest Saturns are supposed to be pretty good but not the Ion.

The other rental cars in the same class at Alamo were the Chevy Cobalt and Dodge Neon, and I'd guess (as another poster said) that the Cobalt is a cousin of the Ion. I've never driven a Neon but they seem sort of cheesy. I think the Ion compares well to the Hyundai Elantra, and probably surpasses the Corolla (a little) in ride quality. And I liked it a whole lot more than the Chrysler PT Cruiser that we rented last year. This was a good road car, and the PT just wasn't, and felt a lot more cramped than this Ion.
