No special tools are required to remove the rear wheel on a 1979 Corolla, other than a jack and lug wrench.

If you have removed the lug nuts and the wheel will not come off, corrosion is probably making the wheel stick. Re-install the lug nuts until they are finger-tight, then back them off 1 turn, and lower the car to the ground. Drive slowly and move the stuck wheel up against a curb and see if you pop it loose, then jack up the car and remove the wheel.

Another, more difficult method is to place a 2" x 4" up against the inner surface of the wheel and pound with a maul or sledge hammer. Be very careful with this method because the hammer can bounce back and hit you or you can damage the wheel or tire.

To prevent a re-occurrence, apply some anti-seize or wheel bearing grease where the wheel touches the drum or rotor, paying attention to the hub.

Depends on the wheel.

Our '97 Corolla requires a special tool to remove the center trim ring on the alloy wheels.

We also need a special tool to remove one of the 'locking' nuts on the wheel itself.
