I can't get the rear captains seats our of my 2000 sienna. The release mechanism keeps jamming. Did they ever come up with a fix for that design?

I can't get the rear captains seats our of my 2000 sienna. The release mechanism keeps jamming. Did they ever come up with a fix for that design?
The only way I can take out the seats are if I remove the floor mats first. Then the seats will go forward enough to release the latch.
