Who killed the electric car?

No, no, it would still have the overrides and thus offer no peril to the battery life. Tomes

Good link, bookmarked. Interesting stuff, but I am too chicken to try it. (Chicken from the wife's wrath that is.) I might think about trying it after the 100K miles are up. Tomes

10 years from now, when topographic maps are part of the GPS systems, I could see this happening. Tomes

What's interesting is how it doesn't seem to increase fuel economy, however, it would decrease the amount of emissions coming from the engine, esp if you just want to move the car over one slot.

What I was thinking of was more along the lines of having the car 'learn' your route, not unlike the way it currently adjusts itself to your driving style. Since I pretty much travel the same routes everyday, it could memorize the terrain and typical speeds of what's ahead.

I do like this thought and would like to certainly see it happening. Tomes

I was not aware that "it currently adjusts itself to your driving style." Please tell me more.

I can't tell you much more than that. The hybrid controller will adjust its parameters based on your driving style. I believe it's mentioned in the manual, because if you disconnect the 12V battery, those settings will be lost, and it may take you a few tanks to get back to your normal MPG.
