~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Though I certainly am not an expert in winter driving, (living in So. California) I'd guess that the Yaris is likely no better and no worse than other cars of its size and road clearance. It's not as if it's a brand new model, since it's been sold in Europe for several years. Hope this helps.....please let the ng members know how the Yaris turns out if you buy one!
The Yaris is the latest offshoot of the Tercel being sold here in the US.
I can't remember what tires I bought from a guy, they were Yoko's, I think. The car was a TANK! Just get some good snow tires, and get 4 of them, and you shouldn't have any problems.
I second what Hachi said. All you need is a good set of winter tires and you'll be fine.
IMO, in this case it would depend more on the tires you put on the car Vs. the car itself. The Integra tires that come on Corollas - & Camrys?? - are
*lousy* in snow, IMO. I change the tires over to ones with better snow ratings (and dry road cornering, & wet roads...), as soon as I can.
I had two cars, a 1980 Corolla SR-5 and a 1986 Corolla GT-S (Hachiroku) and they were both LOUSY in the snow no matter what tires you put on them!
The Tercel was a much better snow car. The GTS only was driven one winter over 20 years, but I put snows on it in case I had to move it, because it wasn't moving at all otherwise...
