2001 Camry Check Engine Light- P1135

I have a 2001 Camry, LE with 58K on it. The Check Engine Light came on, brought it to toyota dealer to read the CEL code ( costs $50 cdn). Their report says the cause is P1135 - Bank 1 Sensor 1 Malfunction. Recommend to change sensor B1S1. The toyota dealer told me it will cost $260 (cdn) parts and 1 hour labour. I decided to take the car to an independent mechanic. He changed the o2 sensor (NGK brand) near the engine manifold, the check engine light still came on. So he put the old sensor back and told me to take the car back the toyota dealer because it could be a much more serious problem ie the computer module or anything from the sensor back.Is he right? Or could it be the the brand NGK vs Denso sensor he used. Or could it be the o2 sensor located underneath the car located behind the catalytic converter.

Thanks All

We have good luck with Bosch Sensors, The actually made some of the first sensors in Europe in the late 70's. I believe. Toyota sensors are pricy, and I don't know why, for all o2 sensors are suppose to be pretty similar. IF the second shop had looked at your "operational Data," they you can watch the o2 sensor work. If it appears to be doing its job then, you chase ghosts into the wiring and computer. Now what I get is a 02 sensor heater malfunction for code P1135, And if he put another sensor in and a code came back, was it the same code? Did he look? Cars set codes for 3 reasons I believe: Open circuit, grounded circuit, or part doesn't read with a parameter. With the heater circuit, I would guess it was just a grounded or lack of power. a good tech should be able to logic it out.
