'91 Camry 4 cyl. 133k mi. Very sluggish accelerating with a/c on. Have not been using a/c when accelerating to highway speed, then when reach about

55 mph cruising speed will turn it on and at that speed feel slight drain but not too bad.. Also turn a/c off when going up a hill... Any ideas what could help? and is turning a/c on at the higher speed doing damage...? Have had car for about a year. Had 2 other Camrys and never sluggish with a/c on like this one.

AC stepper motor - when you turn AC on it increases the idle with a stepper motor, so you wont notice the power drain...

A/C idle motor wouldn't affect performance of the car. Just make it idle poorly/not.

I'm reading that the complaint is: Air Conditioning is draining an excessive amount of HP from engine. Man, other than a locking up compressor bearing. Odd. How's the engine power to start with? Dropping 15 HP on a engine making 130 horse is a lot less noticable than dropping 15 on an out-of-tune engine producing 70 hp.........
