98 camry 4 cyl -135k mi. strikes back. heavy oil consumption problem

boy do i feel like a fool touting my purchase of a camry as the smart thing to do. took car to dealer and got new piston rings, valve seals and an engine cleaning. thought this would correct oil consumption (1qt loss



1500mi). It didn't, the car leaking oil at the same rate. checked pcv and found nothing. car does not leak any oil in driveway overnight. the mechanic said it could be a cracked head. how would you be able to tell what was cracked (head or block) and if one of these is cracked is the car junk? it is a good thing i didn't give up alcohol this week. thanks in advance.

Mine leaked out of the oil pan gasket itself, of course it only leaked when it was running since its not pressurized...

Did the mechy replace the oil-seals when he did the work? While some of the shafts may have been grooved bythe old hard seals, new ones should have stopped most of the leaking.

If its still burning oil, it may need a rebore, though if its a quart every

1000 or so miles now, that is not all that bad for a re-ringed motor.

Check to see if the breather hose which runs from the top of the motor into the throttle-body is oily. If so the enginemaybe breathing the oil-mist into the intake. If so (again) replace the PCV valve which sits at the LH rear of the rocker-cover It maybe the crankcase is not evacuated properly, allowing blow-by to pressurise and pickup ther oil-mist which all engines have flying around in there. Shouldn't cost more than $15 or so.

What kind of dealer put in rings and valve seals without doing everythin else, Bearings, Valvesetc etc etc. How many miles on the car when you bought it. Your story seems like BS
