98 camry mysterious gas mileage problem!

gas prices go up and i slo down from 60 to 70mph. use same gas and travel 60% hgwy;40 local. mpg unchanged. aha! it must then be the rate of acceleration. slo down and wait longer to enter freeway traffic. do not let engine rev over 3000 rpm. use cruise control whenever. guess what! still makes absolutely no difference! gas mileage unchanged (about

23-24mpg). Was Newton wrong? several people responded in a prior post but their suggestions have proved frustrating. could there be some sort of malfunction that could account for this disparity? on straight highway driving it gets exactly 30mpg. it seems that this car with 145k miles has always fallen within the above limits. should i go back to sniffing glue and forget the whole thing?

Buy a Prius? or just drive it like you want to and be glad you dont drive a Hummer!

"General Motors' Hummer H2, which sells for $51,000 to $56,000, was introduced in 2002. It gets about 11 miles per gallon of gasoline.

With gas prices hovering around $2.30 a gallon, that means that every 100 miles driven in an H2 costs about $20.70. Driving the same distance in a Toyota Camry, which gets an average of 27 miles per gallon, would cost a driver approximately $7.60."

As it gets colder your milage will drop. Mainly from friction, oils in motor, trans, differential and bearings, wheels, drivetrain, anything that rotates, take longer to heat to operating temps. Also you may need a tune up things wear out. Go back to driving fast, your milage should drop.
