When the old engine does not keep the pressure you will see the loss in power. Better cars keep the power longer, others dont last even 80-90k miles and crap out... My camry is 197k miles and still kicking pretty good. Couple of weeks ago I have got a pontiac sunfire with 87k miles on the engine and ...OMG! pathetic. Zero power left. And it did not even had a 100k on it yet.
So that's what a Jigawatt (the professor's word, not mine) of power is. :-)
MPG drops off fast once you get above 70 mph, but pleanty of power for a 4 cyl.. it will easily do
90 mph or more.. in cruise , it doesnt down shift while going up steep hills.. keeps a very steady speed. Main thing ive noticed while in cruise and doing a steady 60 mph, the car gives me about 34 to 35 mpg.. at 70 mph it gets around 31 mpg... very rapid drop off in mpg once you go from 65 to 70 mph.. also in cold weather, the mpg will suffer by 1 or 2 mpg below 30 deg f.. I'm useing Scan gauge , an accessory i bought which reads the info from the cars computer, for this info.. so far, it seems to be fairly accurate when i compare mpg and fill up at the pump.. For city driving, that varies all over hell.. depends on how long you are stuck at a traffic light and how many you have to go thru from point a to point b... one time i got lucky and hit most of em green.. a trip of 7 miles and scan gauge showed an average mpg of 33, but if you get hit by every stop light in town, expect more like 22 or 23 mpg.. how any one can say they average this or that is beyond me.. there are so many variables..
??? My 1995 does downshift! Have they changed this to the worse ?
why should it downshift if it can maintain the speed without downshifting? if it downshifts it uses more fuel because the engine is turning at higher rpms
We are talking *steep* hills here. The ones you cannot maintain high speed on the overdrive... When you step on the gas pedal the transmission would downshift to get more power from the engine - cruise should do the same thing if there is not enough juice on the overdrive going up hill to maintain speed.
have an 06 4 and mine does downshift if it needs to. if it can not matain the speed you have set in curse. only had it happen one time on a very steep grade on the interstate.if the car cannot keep a steady speed of say 70 or 75 miles per hour on any interstate something is wrong with the car. take it back to the dealer. that is what cruise is for.
There is nothing wrong with my car - it just does downshift when needed, like yours does. This is exactly what I was just saying after somebody complained here his car does not downshift uphil...
