Brakes vibrating

Hi,

I just replaced the driver side front caliper on our 98 Camry because it would not release, boot was ripped. It would vibrate while just driving normally down the road. So I put a brand spanken new one in there.

When I took the car out for a test drive right after I was done replacing it, it drove nice and smooth, like I remember it acting. The car did seem to vibrate a little hard during some hard braking. But just normal driving at 55mph the ride was nice and smooth.

On my way to work this morning the front end was vibrating at normal driving as if I hadn't even changed it.

Could the rotor be lopsided, because the bad caliper was in there for a few months before I got off my lazy butt to change it.

Thanks Steve

I'd really be suspicious of the rotor. If there is any question about which side you can jack up one wheel (block the rear wheels!)and then put it in gear ( be careful -- I'm not sure but I think the free wheel will be spinng at twice what your speedometer says ). Now apply a little brake and see if you feel some vibration. I've done the following -- but not on a Camry: Take the wheel off and then put the nuts back on to hold the rotor tightly in place. I then used a dial indiacator held in place in a vise ( ? don't recall exactly)and rotated the rotor by hand to check the "run-out". I assume you don't have a dial indicator but you might be able to use something pointed, like a pencil on a block, and "eyeball it". Any "wobbeling" of more than a few thousands is suspect. good luck.
