Camry Power Steering questions

Jul 25, 2003 2 Replies

My wife's 93 Camry has a strange PS problem. After sitting in the parking lot all day where she works, she starts to drive toward the exit and the steering wheel won't turn. After she stops and waits for while, it all starts to work again. It doesn't happen often enough to be predictable, so I haven't been able to duplicate it. Sometimes it will work perfectly for weeks, then suddenly it happens again. Hard to tell if it's weather related: sometimes it's wet outside, sometimes in cold weather, etc. I checked the fluid and the belt and all seems ok. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

My Ford van did almost that except it would turn but stiffly. I used a turkey baster to suck fluid out of the PS reservoir and replaced it with fresh. Did this a few times and the problem disappeared. Could have been coincidence but it was low tech, cheap and easy and might be worth a try. FWIW
