FLASHING Brake/Charge lights when WARM

Just replaced alternator (Kragen Autolite). Worked fine for month or so, then odd thing started to happen: brake/charge lights flash on/off when car is fully warm and driving on city streets. On smooth freeway driving, or at idle, no flashing; only when much accel/deccel does this happen. Anyone got ideas -- do I have loose wires, or is this a bad alternator? Tim

Isn't Autolite the supplier for Ford products? When the charge light comes on, it is indicating that the alternator is not charging the battery, but rather the battery is discharging. For some unexplained reason, frequently the brake light comes on at the same time in many Toyotas, but if you correct the problem with the alternator not charging the battery, both lights will go out. If the light is flashing, sounds like it is charging only intermittently. In my experience it is not uncommon for rebuilt aftermarket alternators and starters to fail. The remanufactured factory (Toyota) units typically give exceptionally long and trouble free service. If you do go back to the Toyota Denso alternator, they generally last the life of the car if you change the brushes around 150,000 miles. Should cost under $20 for the brushes set from the dealer.
