Four banger?

Four banger? Anyone know where this term originates? Toyota four cylinder engines seem smooth to me.

It's an old term (at least in Australia) which has been around since Jesus was a boy. Probably refers to the noisy sound of T model Fords (they sold

1000s of them out here) and such.

If a four seems smooth to you, then you've never laid hands on a V16 (the other end of the spectrum).

Pistons bang up and down. You may be aware of another use of this term in a more procreative way. Your four banger is used to differentiate it from a six banger, eight banger or more. It signifies the number of cylinders. Probably coined when engines did alot more banging.

And a "couple of hubcaps" means two eggs over easy.
