Hi, Several days ago, I post the squeal problem from the front brake of my Camry (90', 4 cylinder, automatic). One and half month ago, I changed the CV boot at the dealer. One month later, the squeal appears now and then from the front brake. Yesterday, I checked the two front disc brakes. I found two anti-squeal shims are missing. Three months ago, when the front struts were changed at a independent garage, I clearly remember they put the auti-squeal shims on the brake pads. Of course, no squeal is at that time. Today, I go to ask the dealer about my problem. I suggest it maybe the technian fogot to put the shim back. I politely talk to him in order not to make things mess. To my surprise, after the receptionist asked someone by phone, he told me they did not need to dismantle the brake caliper to change CV boot. I want to show him the this procedures on Haynes Repair Manual. He said they do not work according to my manual. I ask him to show me the Toyota work manual about this procedure. He said they do not have work manual for 1990. He told me the anti-squeal shims were rust out. I can not believe it at all. Three months can not rust out them without any traces left. To change the anti-squeal shims are not a very difficult job. But, what he said is not true I think. What's your opinion? Do you think what he said is true?
BTW, the previous owner of my car did all the job at the same dealer. When I check the compartment under the hood, I found a bolt for the alternator bracket was not on, but rest between the timing chain cover and right engine mount.
