We have a 1992 Camry that needs paint. Will keep car in family for children so I want a lasting paint job. The car has no damage, dents or rust.
I see TV ads for $229. Not sure if they strip and primer, but the paint is still good. Maybe a "sand and spray" would be OK. After all, it is a give away to my kid.
Anyone ever get one of these cheapie paint jobs? How long do they last, on a white car? What would a Toyota dealer charge?

I got a Maaco job once for 250-300$ When it comes out the car looks pretty good... I don't think they spray on a layer of clearcoat. The paint seems rough. It lasted a bunch of years fine but whatever shine it had in the beginning, vanished. Also they only paint the outside of the car, not the areas where the doors open etc. If you consider that painting a hood costs $400-600 (if you seek perfection), the Maaco way isn't so bad for an old car that would otherwise look like crap.
I have an 89 light metallic blue wagon. I've had it painted twice at Maaco for about $300 each time and been well pleased with the value for the money. It lasts about three years before it loses its shine. The non-metallics will probably last longer. After all, it's a 12 year old car we're talking about. I don't think you're trying to impress anyone. My oldest Camry is 15, and I'm just glad it runs and doesn't look like a junker. For $300 its a bargain!
Just curious. Do you have lots of areas faded through to primer, or is the paint just dull looking. Usually white is one of the more durable colors.
