Slightly OT: Qslim: Scion Supercharger

Hey, I saw a bunch of Scion tCs with Superchargers installed.

One question no one could answer (and these were people from a Scion dealer...): when they install the SC, do they LOWER the damn Final Drive?!?!?!

Without the SC, the damn final drive is too high. I can't even IMAGINE it with the SC installed. Must have to replace the tires every 10,000 miles!

I ask because the Final Drive is too high as it is, and if I can have it dropped, I might consider it. I like to wind my cars out a little more and have some lower Rippems on the hiway, that have apparent neck-snapping acceleration and always looking for another gear at cruising speeds!

Thanks! Good to see you again! How's it going...going to be a lifer now?

Whats up Hachi. Yeah, I'm here in Florida working the night shift doing my best to help keep these old ass F-16s in the air. I used to think mans achievement was designing and building a machine that can do the things these planes can, but now I see that the achievement is keeping a squadron of planes with 20 year old tail numbers in the air at all. Anyway, as far as the SC kit goes, the driveline isn't touched at all. The kit only comes with all the bits needed to install the blower itself, plus a few extras like a new thermostat and a chip for the engine ECU. Other than that, you're talking about 40 or so extra HP on a stock drivetrain. I only intstalled a few of those, and I'll tell you the one thing that I really didn't like about the test drive after I was done; torque steer. Being front wheel drive with an open diff and with fairly narrow tires (and one axle a foot londer than the other), the thing just doesn't have what it needs to put that power down to the pavement. Drop the hammer in anything less than third, and the steering wheel gets a mind of its own. Throttle up in a turn, and the thing understeers severely, pushes right out of the corner. Now, on the highway that exra power comes in very useful. Drop down into fourth to make a pass and you'll zip on by anything you need to. But anyway, your observation is correct. In addition to the gearing, there are other changes that need to be made to a car like the tC. You can't just toss 25% more power into a car and leave everthing else untouched. You just can't do anything with it. And I'm done. So what, you bought a tC? What about the Supra bone yard?

Oh yeah! Bought it in September. Two things I don't like: tall gearing and tall seating. Feel like I'm sitting at a damn dinner table. My Celica, Corolla GTS and Supra are MUCH more comfortable.

But the thing sure is FAST! I can't even imagine 200HP!

But, because of the seats, sometimes I wish I'd bought a Civic Si V-Tech, but there was a minimum 90 day wait, and ours is such a small dealer, it was probably more...

The Supra is still chugging along nicely. I did a compete tune up and changed the valve cover gaskets since they had gaps and spraying oil all over the exhaust. But, it passed inspection! What a project just to replace plugs and wires!! At a cost of $150 for gaskets, cap, rotor, aftermarket NGK wires and plugs.

Now, on to the suspension! Maybe, one day, I will actually *DO* something about the transmission! ;)

The other car in the running was a Mazda 3 3-door, but couldn't find one. We had one at the Toy dealer I was working at, but it had the AT...
