Steering Column shake during braking

hi I have a 2000 V6 camry auto with 40K miles and only recently noticed the steering shake slightly during braking. I do rotate my tires every

6000 miles and get an alignment down every 10K. Any ideas wh at may be causing it.

Thanks

Front disc brakes rotors are warped.

This is probable, but not necessarily the issue. Check to see if it does it EVERY time you brake, or is it just sometimes, or most of the time,..................I have a similar problem that has been ongoing, but is intermittent. Some road surfaces are different than others and it only does it about half the time. When I try to trouble shoot, it seems to just quit doing it. I have been the brake rotor route, I have changed types of brake pads, all kinds of stuff. Nothing fixes it. I am starting to think the wheel bearings are bad on one side. The shaking is dominant on the right side also, not both sides............nyone have a different cure for this or am I on the right track?

I've seen tread seperation in one or more tires cause this as well. HTH, davidj92

Maybe after changing the rotors the guy over tightened the lug nuts and ruined the new rotors. Happens all the time.

I think the point is, it could be anything. There are a lot of moving parts at each wheel. Rotors are an obvious place to look. So are off-balance wheels though, since you rotate, less likely (but still not uncommon). [Same goes for tires - less likely, though still quite possible.] And it could always be something else in the brakes.

Get the wheels checked for balance and while they're off check the rotors for warpage. You'll also want to see if the brakes are buttoned down the way they should be.

I changed them Myself, torqued to 75ft/lb............70-80 is recommended. It's not a damaged rotor. When I last went to the tire store I set the torque wrench for the guy who put the wheels on. (my torque wrench) I hate the tire store madness of hurried people and over-used and under maintained equipment.

New pads at the same time. first day, no shake, next day, shake. Sometimes it doesn't shake at all, sometimes it shakes violently as I stop. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with particular speed either. Fast stops generally are more noticeable and violent (whenit shakes) than slow controlled stop (once again, when it shakes). No real rhyme or reason so far. If I do find the cure I will certainly post my results and share "The Cure".

Thanks for the input
