I just test drove 4 different Camry V6s today. They all exhibit adelay of about a half-second to a second between pushing the throttleand engine response. I was shopping to buy one. I noticed it immediately on test drivingthe first car. I continued trying others at different dealers to seeif the first car had a malfunction. All 4 exhibited the hesitation.I happens any time I'd press down on the acceleration moderately --not gently and not jamming it. About like you'd do when leaving astop sign when not in a rush. It happens when accelerating from astop or from a steady speed like when you go from a 30 mph zone into50 mph. You push the throttle to bring you up to 50 -- not leisurelyand not wide open.I discussed this with a salesman and a sales manager at anotherdealer. Both were aware of this issue. The salesman said it was asafety feature so you would jump out too quickly (Uh huh, sure. TheAccord doesn't have this lag -- it responds instantly. The 4 cylinderCamry responds properly too.). The sales manager said it would goaway with time. Not very comforting. He offered to let me drive onewith 20,000 miles on it to see for myself. I did and it had the samehesitation.I ran across a rumor on the net that this is a problem with the V6transmission and a recall is expected soon. I can find absolutely noconfirmation of this and the sales manager says there's no truth toit.Has this been discussed here? I can't find any mention of it inGoogle groups?jim

4 Cyl Camry is no good either. My 02 Camry (4 cyl, 19 months old, JP made. ) is leaking coolant (dealer said it's "seeping", not "leaking") near the top of the drive belt area. When I compare mine with a friend's same car (02, 4 cyl, but a few months older), found his engine is leaking oil! (at a place a few inches away from where mine is leaking coolant). Other problems: rattle noise from behind dash; drive belt make a loud squeaking noise when hot(after a few minutes driving); snapping noise from windshield in winter. Mine has 2 other problems fixed by dealer: fuel guage malfunction after 4 months; No air blown to the floor last month. 02 - 04 are the same models.

I drove a 2004 Sienna with the V6 which exhibited the same symptoms yesterday. I guess this problem is just not limited to the Camry line either.

have '02 i4 camry and it DOES have drive by wire! No cable, just a gismo on the ne d of the gas pedal.

I have not noticed a hesitation.

I didn't notice the potentiometer on the I4. Only on the V6. Maybe it's been changes since '02.
