I've got an '02 Tacoma with TRD package. The manual says I should have an anti-sway device if towing over 2000 pounds (although the towing weight limit is 3500). Anyone know if this truck already has an anti-sway device?
It doesn't have any noticeable lateral shimmy when I'm towing my 1000 lb boat/trailer. But, a friend is asking for help towing a U-Haul trailer, and I'll be a little over the 2000 lbs mentioned in the manual, by the time we're done loading the thing.

The "pair of arms" are the weight distributing spring bars designed to lever the rear of the truck up and the front down. It doesn't do much for trailer sway.
The usual sway damping gizmo is a friction sway damper bar, and they're only moderately effective. it connects between the hitch and the tongue with a sliding bar and a friction brake.
Anti-sway bars on a vehicle's suspension are completely different from anti-sway devices for towing.

I'm headed out with a 14 foot box trailer, weighs empty at 3100#, have 2 quads and 3 motorcycles in it plus lots of gear. Its tandem axle with electric brakes, tows nice. I wouldnt tow this without electric brakes though.
Thanks for all the input. I now feel confident enough to not only tow the U-Haul trailer, but I might use the Taco to tow an undesirable neighbor's house to the other end of the street.
That's something you should tell the Hitch sellers ... !
