1990 4runner

I have a 1990 4runner. While driving one day it just died on my in the middle of the road. It will turn over but won't fire. I've replaced the coil pack and the ignitor, but it still won't fire. If anybody knows what else it might be, give me some advice?

(mileage, engine, maintenance history???)

Could be a number of things...

That said, I nominate the Air Flow Meter as a possible culprit. (This comes from experience, and, like you, I now possess a spendy spare ignitor.)

No kidding... you try the EFI fuse to see if it's blown?

This happened to me on my return trip from vacation. Was going along at 65mph and all of sudden the engine dies. Roadside troubleshooting showed no spark, but wasn't able to determine why. The 4Runner was towed to the nearest town. Fortunately, there wqas a Toyota dealer. The dealer's first stab at fixing the problem wasn't correct (I believe it was the spark iginitor assembly or something close to it). They then pulled the distributor and found the shaft had frozen up and the gears had been stripped. They replaced it and the engine has been purring ever since.

It failed at 263,000 miles (it's now at 307,000), a little over 2 years ago.

Cost: Distribuitor rotor assembly - $260, labor - $165
