2005 4 Runner V8 With 4wd is it fulltime

So here goes but I am in the market and need to know why the 4 runner 4WD is full time ..

I would rather have it part time to save GAS $$$

So am stuck in 4wd or will it go into 2wd mode why spin all, those parts if you can avoid it ....

Thanks Mike Lubbert

My '95 Land Cruiser is full-time 4wd, so it's certainly something Toyota knows how to do well if you are worried about that part of it.

I know what you mean about not having it on all the time but you know what, it's actually pretty cool. Makes the truck feel grippier at all times and you get used to driving it that way and then when you get on dirt/mud/snow you don't get that tense feeling of OK, the road conditions are bad and I just changed how my truck drives as you put it in 4wd... since it's always in 4wd just forget about it, get used to how it drives, and that's how it always drives! Forget it except at the gas pump. But you aren't buying a

4-runner for the gas mileage.

The full time setup is pretty transparent when you are driving, BTW. No binding in slow sharp turns and the turn radius is awesome on out Land Cruiser. So it's not like being in my Jeep or my Nissan 4x4 when they are in 4wd. I'm assuming that the 4-runner transfer case goes into a locked mode in 4-low (part-time 4wd), right? Then you'll feel it more.
