4 wheel drive 1-ton axles?

Need some tech help. I have a 1986 Toyota 1 ton C&C dual-axle pickup. The cab is shot, and some wiring is burned inside the harness. I want to put the utility bed it has on it on a 4 wheel drive chassis of about the same year, and also roll the dual axle under there. I have heard rumors that the 1-ton axle and the 4WD axle have the same drop-in, but possibly different ratios. Can anyone verify this? If the ratio is different, I should be able to custom-make another for the front end from another truck, I assume. I don't care if the speedo works right. Also, if that is not feasible, can I use a

1/2-ton 2wd chassis, and my rear end and axle? Is there anything special about my 1-ton chassis other than the suspension, and the axles and tranny?

Usually, you can swap the ring and pinion gears in the diffs to get to the same ratios for the front and rear axle.
