88 4Runner IDLE Problems

Aug 23, 2004 0 Replies

HiEverybody,

My 88 4Runner V6 is having trouble deciding what RPM it should be idleing at. It fluctuates with temperature much more than it should. If the outside temp is more than 20 celcius it will be fine. But as it gets colder it will start to idle high, all the way up to 1600 rpm, and this is in outside temps of around 7 to 10 celcius. And the more heat I steal from the engine to warm up my feet, the higher the idle will go.

I replaced the temp sensor that communicates with the ecu and there was no change. I'm not sure what else to check.

Does anybody know what this could be?

Thanking in advance for your help.

Murphy
