1997 4Runner Idle Adjust

Could someone tell me how to adjust the idle on a 1997 4Runner V6 and what the ideal idle should be. Thanks.

idle is adjusted through the ECU / IAC ... if its off then it could be a vacuum leak or the IAC not working properly. Reset the computer by discing the battery and see if it gets better

If I disconnect the battery, will the stereo stop working? I don't nknow what the code is. I am idling at 1200 rpm, is that correct? Thanks.

Well, you can reset the computer by pulling the EFI fuse for a couple of minutes. I believe the radio is hooked up to the dome light fuse for it's constant power. The EFI fuse is easier than disconnecting the battery.

1200 rpms doesn't seem that high when initially starting the truck. Does it stay at that idle speed after it warms up?

yes the stereo will go out and you need the code ... a toy dealer can reset it (most likely for a large fee).

I will look up tonight what it should idel at but in the range of

700-850 sounds right

I removed the EFI fuse and the idle returned to normal 8500rpm for a while. But today it is back to 12000-14000 range.
