Annoying alarm behavior after new starter

I recently had a new starter installed on my 2000 Tacoma with the factory alarm/security system.

Since that time, the alarm system is behaving annoyingly.

If I shut the truck off and do not lock the vehicle with the remote after a short period of time (one minute, perhaps?) then the truck will "beep" and the alarm system will arm itself, but the doors do not lock.

If I open the door without "unlocking" it with the remote, thus deactivating the alarm, the alarm sounds.

This is highly annoying. I do not remember setting the system not to arm itself in this matter after I bought the truck, but perhaps I did.

Anyway, I can't figure out how to disable this annoying "feature" and the owner's manual is packed away somewhere. Anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps they disconnected the battery during the starter install and that caused your alarm to default back to factory settings. My advise, get the manual out.

Yes, that they did, but the battery had been disconnected several times before in the weeks preceding the starter install (new battery installation and repeated disconnects by me to clear out a "check engine" indicator caused by a faulty lower oxygen sensor) with no corresponding change in the alarm behavior.

Now where did I put that manual?????

I poked around and found this on the 'Net.

I think this answers my question, but it's odd that the passive alarm is "off" in the factory settings but reverted to "on" after the starter was replaced.
