Check engine light 99 Tacoma, Help..

Hey everyone,

I have a 99 Tacoma with 130,000 miles on it and today the check engine line turned on. So I checked it and it is still there. But what I was hoping to find out is what can trigger this light or at least a good place to start looking.

Thanks,

Scott..

Have a place like Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc... read the code. It's usually done at no charge, with the hope you'll buy the parts from them.

There are literally hundreds of things that can trigger that light. Visit an Autozone store and they will either pull the diagnostic codes for you, or give you the scan tool so you can pull them yourself. It is a free service at Autozone.

Odds favor a poorly secured gas cap, or a failed O2 Sensor. These are just guesses though, pull codes and go from there.

Here is a list of the codes ...

Thanks for the help.

I went to Auto Zone and turns out I needed to run some injector cleaner or at least that is what they said the code meant. Not sure about the code either I didn't even bother to ask...

Thanks again,

Scott..

That's kind of like taking a sick kid to the doctor, but not asking what the kid is sick of.

Your truck is ill, and you get the equivelent of, "take two Coronas, and call me in the morning." Coronas might fix what ails you, but I think you really need to know what ails the truck.
