Need Driver Seatbelt for 2003 Tacoma

Oct 06, 2003 3 Replies

Ordered one from my local dealer 4! months ago and still backordered until October 24th. These belts now have explosives and can only be shipped by boat. But I am sure there have been incidences where someone has needed a new seatbelt here in North America...why can't I get one? Oh my.

Is it completely non-functional after it has fired?

What did it take to make it go off?

Mike

Yes, the explosive charge retracts the seat belt permanently. Its locked. For now, I unbolted the anchor from the floor and am using that with the belt buckle as my shoulder harness.

Tapping into the wire running under the door...it was mistaken for a speaker wire while installing an amp and sub combo.

I called Toyota Canada and the lady was shocked to learn I have been waiting over 4 months. She said she would arrange a loaner vehicle. I said I was told it could be another 3 weeks at least before I get that belt. I'm not parking my truck for 3+ weeks to drive an Echo...I'll take my chances.

I thought they were supposed to wrap all the harness wires for the airbags (and other safety systems like the explosive squibs in the retractors) in yellow or red tape - something obviously contrasting (like a Coral Snake) just so people didn't make expensive (and potentially dangerous, since we're talking explosives) mistakes like that.

Obviously, they didn't. :-0

Another vote for having a Factory Service Manual on hand, with decent wiring diagrams...

Posted and (accidentally) E-mailed - surprised me when the Norton Anti-virus "outgoing mail scan" window popped up... Then again, that address looks spam-trapped, with no mention in his .sig about it.
