Oxygen sensor on carbureted pickup

Hi Gang,



Dumb question for you all. I'm working through the list or routine maintenance chores in the Haynes manual to refresh my recently acquired 1981 pickup.



One of the items on the list is replacing the oxygen sensor. The book is a little ambigious about it -- some of the text suggests that oxygen sensors are govern the operation of the fuel injector system. My 22r is carbureted, but there is a little gizmo that looks like an oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold.



So, do my eyes deceive me?

My '88 pickup has a 22r, a carburetor, and an oxygen sensor. I've asked the group a couple of times, at least, what it's for but never got an answer and only one response if I remember right.

Maybe this time, the right person (the one who knows the answer) will read the thread and reply... :>))

FWIW, I changed mine a few months ago, didn't notice any difference in performance or mileage...
